Pu-erh tea has a rich and interesting history behind it.  Pu-erh tea is named as such because it is grown in the city of Pu-erh in the Yunnan Province of China where it has been harvested for hundred of years, and was originally grown and discovered there.  While some people think that Pu-erh tea is a type of dark tea or black tea, it is actually a type of tea in itself, much like a black tea, a green tea, or an Oolong tea.  Pu-erh is a classification of tea by itself, and is available in loose leaf form, but is mainly produced in tea bricks, or tea cakes, which are compressed Pu-erh tea flakes which have been pressed into a particular shape or size.  This Pu-erh Mini Tuo Cha tea cakes are made from premium flaked Pu-erh tea leaves which have been compressed into the shape of a small beautiful bird's nest, then individually wrapped for better storage and easy brewing.
Pu-erh tea can be purchased as either raw/green (sheng) or ripened/cooked (shu), depending on processing method or aging. Sheng pu-erh can be roughly classified on the tea oxidation scale as a green tea, and the shou or aged-green variants as post-fermented tea.Unlike other teas that should ideally be consumed shortly after production, pu-erh can be drunk immediately or aged for many years; pu-erh teas are often now classified by year and region of production much like wine vintages.
